The development of simulation model for self-reconfigurable manufacturing system considering sustainability factors
Currently, there are many researches about sustainable and eco-friendly manufacturing system. However, up to now, there are not many studies yet discussing about the integration between sustainability and self-reconfigurability. In this paper, the relationship between self-reconfigurability and sustainability is investigated, especially when a manufacturing system changes its process based on its new-determined goal. This paper also provides an experiment result by using simulation model consider a process reconfiguration and sustainability factors. Through existing research results, the literature is reviewed in order to obtain the relationship between self-reconfigurability and sustainability. The appropriate sustainability factors for self-reconfigurability such as energy efficiency, resource efficiency, and so on, has been checked and selected by using AHP(Analytic hierarchy process). Then, the simulation model will be developed by considering the selected sustainability factors. To check and analyze how sustainability factors affect manufacturing processes and how sustainability factors, also change when manufacturing process are changed. The result of this paper can be a basis for the future research to increase sustainability in a selfꠓreconfigurable manufacturing system.

Implementation framework of advanced planning and scheduling system for smart manufacturing in SMEs
Background/Objectives: Small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) are usually unable to properly respond to the rapid changes in the production environment. Methods/Statistical analysis: We propose an implementation framework of advanced planning and scheduling (APS) system specialized for SMEs. The following are considered as the main factors in implementation of APS system: 1) establishment of on-site production data collection and management system for SMEs with poor IT infrastructure, 2) establishment of production scheduling system linking experiential knowledge of field production manager, and 3) construction of various scenario analysis system using simulation technique. Findings: The proposed APS system can collect and manage the production data generated at the manufacturing site. Various production data can be stored, and realistic scheduling can be established according to actual situation of the site. Second, scheduling can be established in connection with the experiential knowledge of field managers. Using a technique for order or preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) based approach, it is possible to select the optimal work priority assigned to the manager's empirical weight, and it is possible to make quick decision-making and rescheduling in various situations. Third, the simulation function is installed, and it is possible to analyze the forecasted scenario in terms of the productivity through the simulation result index. Improvements/Applications: It is expected to contribute to the establishment of smart production of SMEs by efficiently managing the production data at low cost and improving the system utilization.

Prioritizing method of same due-date work orders for small- and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises(SMEs)
Today, most small- and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) that are based on order-making methods have difficulty in making production plans because of the increased requirements of customers and shortening of the product life cycle. If a manufacturer sticks to a pre-defined production schedule in such a highly dynamic environment, the profitability of the company may deteriorate due to low productivity. However, in small companies lacking manpower or financing power, it is very difficult to establish a reasonable production scheduling for satisfying dynamically changing customer’s orders. In this paper, we proposed a prioritizing method of work orders with same due-date, considering the delivery delay cost, inventory management cost, set-up time and reliability of delivery to the customer. The proposed method applies the technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS ) to multi-attribute decision-making, based on the experiential knowledge of production managers. The performance thereof is verified using a simulation study that employed an advanced planning and scheduling (APS) system as a test-bed. The result shows that the proposed methodology reduces the make-span compared with conventional dispatching rules such as the shortest processing time (SPT) and the longest processing time (LPT) rules.

Development of goal model mechanism for self-reconfigurable manufacturing systems in the mould industry
In Fractal Manufacturing System (FrMS), goal-orientation is solved by its distinguished technology, which is the goal-formation process (GFP). GFP consists of three procedures, which are goal-generation process (GGP), goal-harmonizing process (GHP), and goal-balancing process (GBP). However, in order to operate the goal-orientation technology, it requires the development of the defined goal model mechanism which can show the relationship between goals. FrMS requires a development of goal model in order to define mutual relationships between multiple objectives or goals such as performance, productivity, quality, flexibility, and so on. Therefore, this paper proposes the development of goal model for FrMS by analyzing former objectives or goals and obtain a new goal based on manufacturing dataset from mold industry. In order to develop the FrMS goal model, hierarchy in the reference goal model is identified and logics is developed for creation of bottom-leveled tasks in the reference model. After analyzing how their mutual relationships could affect the generation of goals and sub-goals, the initial goal model can be established and customized subjectively regarding to each company or factory’s preference. In order to establish initial goal model, support vector machine is used. The proposed goal model mechanism is developed to complete and support the goal-orientation technology by adjusting company’s goal.

Bid generation and evaluation for MANPro-based real time scheduling
This paper proposes a bid generation and evaluation scheme and an information model for real-time scheduling. It is well known that an agent-based control approach performs according to both the negotiation mechanism itself and the single agent internal strategic policies. Mobile agent-based negotiation process (MANPro), which has been proposed in our previous work, concerns the first issue of the negotiation mechanism. This paper concerns the second issue of the single agent internal strategic policies. It explains how bids are generated and evaluated and how agents obtain mutual agreement in MANPro. First, the generic bid generation and evaluation framework for MANPro-based negotiation is proposed. Then, the generic framework is applied to a real-time scheduling system for a distributed shop floor control system (SFCS).

Generation of a flanking sequence-tag database for activation-tagging lines in japonica rice
We have generated 47,932 T-DNA tag lines in japonica rice using activation-tagging vectors that contain tetramerized 35S enhancer sequences. To facilitate use of those lines, we isolated the genomic sequences flanking the inserted T-DNA via inverse polymerase chain reaction. For most of the lines, we performed four sets of amplifications using two different restriction enzymes toward both directions. In analyzing 41,234 lines, we obtained 27,621 flanking sequence tags (FSTs), among which 12,505 were integrated into genic regions and 15,116 into intergenic regions. Mapping of the FSTs on chromosomes revealed that T-DNA integration frequency was generally proportional to chromosome size. However, T-DNA insertions were non-uniformly distributed on each chromosome: higher at the distal ends and lower in regions close to the centromeres. In addition, several regions showed extreme peaks and valleys of insertion frequency, suggesting hot and cold spots for T-DNA integration. The density of insertion events was somewhat correlated with expressed, rather than predicted, gene density along each chromosome. Analyses of expression patterns near the inserted enhancer showed that at least half the test lines displayed greater expression of the tagged genes. Whereas in most of the increased lines expression patterns after activation were similar to those in the wild type, thereby maintaining the endogenous patterns, the remaining lines showed changes in expression in the activation tagged lines. In this case, ectopic expression was most frequently observed in mature leaves. Currently, the database can be searched with the gene locus number or location on the chromosome at http://www.postech.ac.kr/life/pfg/risd. On request, seeds of the T(1) or T(2) plants will be provided to the scientific community.

Goal-balancing process for goal formation in the fractal manufacturing system
The coordination architecture and mechanisms are proposed for the goal-balancing process (GBP), which is one of the components of goal-formation process (GFP) in the fractal manufacturing system (FrMS). Since each agent in the FrMS generates, achieves and modifies its own goal autonomously during the coordination process with other agents, it is necessary to develop a systematic methodology for the goal-formations in a manufacturing system: GFP takes charge of this methodology, which enables the formation of and the changes in goal through coordination between agents in real-time in the distributed and dynamic systems. The GFP is composed of three sub-processes: the goal-generating process (GGP), the goal-harmonizing process (GHP), and the GBP. The GGP makes and propagates goals for all fractals. The GHP then eliminates or reduces possible conflicts and interferences between goals generated in GGP. The GBP is the post-process of GHP; it refines the fractal's goal, which has been ridded of conflict during the GHP to enhance the global performance of the system, rather than maximizing the performance of each fractal. For the development of the GBP we proposed a mechanism for unit goal-balancing process (UGBP), which is the basic process of GBP that adopts the, fuzzy decision-making, and distributed problem solving approaches.

r-FrMS: a relation-driven fractal organization for distributed manufacturing systems
Up-to-date market dynamics and decentralisation have brought about the need of flexible and robust organisational structures for manufacturing resources. To meet the need of such an environment, the manufacturing system should be equipped with an open, reconfigurable and scalable organisational structure. This paper proposes a novel organisational model, referred to as a relation-driven fractal organisation, to meet the requirements. The proposed model applies the concept of a fractal to its organisational structure and adopts a relational pattern between composing entities as a basic building block for organising. In this paper, the existing fractal-like systems involved in manufacturing systems are investigated, and the fractal organisation is derived as their super-ordinate concept. Then, r-FrMS, a relation-driven fractal organisation applied into distributed manufacturing systems, is proposed along with its organising mechanism which adopts employment relations between manufacturing resources as its organising principle.

Self-evolution framework of manufacturing systems based on fractal organization
The turbulent environment of modern times breeds a need to ensure flexibility and responsiveness for manufacturing systems. The conventional manufacturing systems, however, are not suitable for the dynamic environment because of their rigid structure. Thus, it is necessary to establish a novel manufacturing system which is capable of proactively perceiving the environment and of autonomously adapting to the changing environments. The purpose of this paper is to propose a self-evolution framework of manufacturing systems that facilitates continuous and quick adaptation. In a self-evolutionary manufacturing system, each production resource regulates its own goal, responding to the changes in its environment. Moreover, the organizational structure of the production resources is also dynamically transformed into a form suitable to the changed goal and the emerging environment. Especially, the proposed framework adopts fractal organization for its principal control architecture.

A goal-oriented trust model for virtual organization creation
Virtual organization (VO) is a main organizational paradigm for enterprises to collaborate in the rapidly changing environment. Advances in information and communication technologies are accelerating collaboration among enterprises in different domains as well as unknown enterprises. In this environment, an enterprise faces more chances to cooperate with other enterprises through the internet. Trust is a key concept in many kinds of interactions, allowing an enterprise to act under uncertainty and with the risk of negative consequences. To minimize the operating risk and guarantee the success of a VO, trust evaluation of potential partners should be considered during the partner selection process. However, trust evaluation methods in the literature have limitations in applying them to small and medium enterprises because they are based on evaluation of human experts. In this paper, a goal-oriented trust model is proposed to evaluate the trust values of enterprises. In the context, trust is the probability that a trustee satisfies the goals when it completes assigned tasks. This paper introduces the concept of a goal-oriented trust model with the core constructs of a goal, a project, a task, and a capability. It further addresses an example of applying the proposed model to the partner selection process of a project-based VO creation.

Function and service pattern analysis for facilitating the reconfiguration of collaboration system
Recently, manufacturing companies have been attempting to increase competitiveness in their business collaboration with cooperative companies rather than within their own companies. In order to facilitate their collaboration, they are attempting to adopt or already using a collaboration system, which supports a number of functions and services. However, it is very difficult to apply existing systems into other organizations or industrial sections without customization or reconfiguration because functional or service requirements of users usually differ according to their domain knowledge. In order to re-apply and disseminate an existing system to other companies, therefore, the system must be reconfigured by modifying, upgrading, or newly developing some portions of the system. During the customization processes, functions or services of the system must be refined in order to satisfy user requirements. For facilitating the reconfiguration of collaboration systems, in this paper, we first define user patterns, and subsequently propose a method for investigating and analyzing patterns based on data mining approach. The proposed method validates normal versus abnormal patterns that show a drastic increase in the use of a specific function or service, and automatically makes the system recognize abnormal patterns as new normal patterns when abnormal patterns continue for a long time. We conduct experiments and comparison studies using an Apriori-like approach in order to establish the effectiveness of the proposed method. We also suggest a guideline for the reconfiguration of function modules or services with a specific collaboration system.

Reinforcement learning approach to goal-regulation in a self-evolutionary manufacturing system
Up-to-date market dynamics has been forcing manufacturing systems to adapt quickly and continuously to the ever-changing environment. Self-evolution of manufacturing systems means a continuous process of adapting to the environment on the basis of autonomous goal-formation and goal-oriented dynamic organization. This paper proposes a goal-regulation mechanism that applies a reinforcement learning approach, which is a principal working mechanism for autonomous goal-formation. Individual goals are regulated by a neural network-based fuzzy inference system, namely, a goal-regulation network (GRN) updated by a reinforcement signal from another neural network called goal-evaluation network (GEN). The GEN approximates the compatibility of goals with current environmental situation. In this paper, a production planning problem is also examined by a simulation study in order to validate the proposed goal regulation mechanism.

Performance comparison between the preferred right and preferred left hands in text entry using Qwerty touch keyboard smartphones
In one-handed text entry with a smartphone, we investigate whether the use of the preferred hand presents better performance than when the non-preferred hand is used. In particular, we study whether the performance of a skilled left hand is worse than that of a skilled right hand among right-handers. A total of 30 young, male, right-handed undergraduate students participated in the experiment. Half of the participants preferred to use their right hands for the smartphone text entry when only one hand was available, whereas the other half preferred to use their left hands. The participants were instructed to type a text message using a Qwerty touch keyboard with both hands, with right hand only, and left hand only through three different experiments. The text completion time and number of errors were measured, and words per minute and keystrokes per minute were calculated to compare the performance among the text entry tasks. In entering a text message with only one hand, approximately 70% of the 15 participants who preferred to use their right hands and approximately 30% of the other 15 participants who preferred to use their left hands have shown to perform better when using their preferred hand than when using their non-preferred hand. The performance of the participants with a skilled left hand was not worse than that of those with a skilled right hand in smartphone text entry.

Agent-based production simulation of TFT-LCD fab driven by material handling requests
Thin film transistor-liquidcrystal display (TFT-LCD) fabs are highly capital-intensive. Therefore,to ensure that a fab remains globally competitive, production must take placeat full capacity with high utilization of resources and must employjust-in-time principles that require on-time delivery with minimum work-in-process (WIP).However, limited space and lack of material handling capacity act asconstraints that hamper on-time delivery to process equipment. Therefore, to build an efficient production management system, a material handling model should beincorporated in the system. In this paper, anagent-based production management system is proposed for a TFT-LCD fab. Every manufacturing resource (including process equipment and material handling equipment), as well as WIP, isrepresented as anindividual agent. The agent simulates operational behavior ofassociated equipment or WIP. This paper also proposes a simulation model by usingan event graph-based approach.

Evolutionary resource assignment for workload-based production scheduling
In this paper, we propose an evolutionary method with a simulation model for scheduling jobs including operations specified in terms of workload rather than processing time. It is suggested that processing times should be determined according to the number of assigned resources rather than the workload. The simulation model is used to estimate the result of resource allocation in a time horizon based on preselected rules. The evolutionary methods improve a production schedule in terms of compliance with due dates by selecting an alternative resource allocation rule and changing timing constraints. The results of computational experiments show that compliance with due dates improved by as much as 30 % under the modified production schedule over the initial schedule.

A conceptual framework for equipment maintenance automation under a pyroprocessing automation framework
For most of the remote maintenance activities of equipment in a hot cell, replacing breakdown modules is preferred over in situ repair because of insufficient space in the cell and the limited operability of remote handling tools. In such cases, the maintenance operation can be decomposed into transport of the new modules to the failed equipment, replacement of the broken modules with new ones, and then transport of the broken parts to the reserved space for further repair or disposal. In this respect, transfer is the most basic operation during remote maintenance, which is also true for the maintenance of pyroprocessing equipment. Hence, this paper proposes a maintenance automation framework for automated pyroprocessing equipment from the standpoint of module transfer. For the maintenance automation framework, maintenance-related functions and events are defined, and they are integrated with the pyroprocess automation framework. The proposed framework is verified by a case study on the maintenance of a large module through a hardware-in-the-loop simulation.

An extended agent communication framework for rapid reconfiguration of distributed manufacturing systems
For proactive responses to customer requirements and rapidly advancing technologies, current manufacturing systems are required to be increasingly adaptable and reconfigurable. We present a communication framework between the coordinator, workstation agents, and executors to facilitate the reconfiguration process of manufacturing systems. The message structure of interagent information exchange is extended for the initiation, self-layout recognition, and control program update phases of reconfiguration. To provide more autonomy to a manufacturing system and to synchronize the updated shop floor condition, a self-layout recognition mechanism was developed based on infrared communication that enables each workstation to identify directly linked workstations and share the identified information with other shop floor entities for automatic layout change detection. Furthermore, we propose a message-based reprogramming approach to quickly update, insert, or delete command lines in the existing control program for a specific device in a workstation. We demonstrate a reconfiguration process via the communication framework in a factory testbed consisting of nine main workstations in a laboratory environment.

A two-phased perishable inventory model for production planning in a food industry
The food industry is faced with complicated inventory management problems because of the perishable nature of its raw materials, i.e., agricultural or marine products. Because agricultural and marine products spoil over time, it is necessary for inventory managers to employ a management strategy to prevent expiration of their storage periods. Furthermore, supply and demand of agricultural and marine products fluctuate considerably with climatic variations, seasonal changes and various social factors. Thus, a dynamic inventory model is to be devised concerning such fluctuation of supply and demand. In this paper, a two-phased perishable inventory model for a food industry is proposed, where the inventory is perishable, but can be renewed by additional processing. The proposed model is applied and demonstrated with a kimchi processing facility in Korea. Two heuristic solution methods for generating its inventory management plan are also presented along with computational experiments.

The up-to-date business environment for Korean manufacturers is very complex and rapidly changing. Especially, the companies have faced with various changes derived from small quantity batch production, diversification of customer demands, and short life cycles of products. Consequently, the Korean manufacturing companies are in need of more efficient production planning and scheduling techniques. In this paper, the research trend of scheduling techniques is investigated to provide relevant information to researchers in this field. Furthermore, some implications for future researches are presented regarding literatures published in Korea over the last 10 years. This paper presents an entire investigation into Korean research works on scheduling (2,569 papers) that are published from 2007 to 2016. Especially, detailed analysis was carried out in the following three industry : 1) semiconductor, 2) shipbuilding and 3) automobile. In this paper, approaches to scheduling presented in the literature are categorized into the following three categories : 1) application, 2) algorithm, and 3) simulation modeling. First, in the semiconductor industry, scheduling techniques related to semiconductor cleaning processes, photolithography processes, chemical processes, transport and transport equipment have been found to be dominant. Second, the shipbuilding industry is focused on assembly processes, transporter, crane and various existing production management system. On the other hand, the scheduling research of the automobile industry is mainly focused on the vehicle movement routing and procurement supply-chain planning algorithm in terms of logistics. The conclusion of this study are expected to provide many implications for various types of academic and practical follow-up studies related to scheduling in consideration of main characteristics of semiconductor, shipbuilding and automobile industries.

MANPro: Mobile agent-based negotiation process for distributed intelligent manufacturing
This paper examines negotiation procedures in an agent-based distributed shop floor control system (SFCS). A distributed SFCS is under a heterogeneous environment, which is controlled through negotiations between autonomous agents. The negotiation-based control can be considered as the core of a distrib-uted control paradigm. An efficient information exchanging mechanism and an information model with reasonable structure are indispensable for effective negotiations. This paper proposes a novel negotiation mechanism, called a mobile agent-based negotiation process (MANPro), which applies a mobile agent system to the process of information exchange. Since using mobile agents allows each component to execute asynchronously and autonomously and to adapt dynamically to the execution environment, MANPro may guarantee autonomy of agents. Moreover, it is possible to build a fully distributed and autonomous SFCS by using MANPro. MANPro is based on the agent-based control architecture, which includes a communication architecture and an infor-mation architecture. The communication architecture provides the exchanging mechanism of information, defining functional modules to support the mecha-nism while the information architecture provides the framework for information modelling on negotiation, proposing information models required for introducing the ontology concept.

Preliminary design of a production automation framework for a pyroprocessing facility
Pyroprocessing technology has been regarded as a promising solution for recycling spent fuel in nuclear power plants. The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute has been studying the current status of equipment and facilities for pyroprocessing and found that existing facilities are manually operated; therefore, their applications have been limited to laboratory scale because of low productivity and safety concerns. To extend the pyroprocessing technology to a commercial scale, the facility, including all the processing equipment and the material-handling devices, should be enhanced in view of automation. In an automated pyroprocessing facility, a supervised control system is needed to handle and manage material flow and associated operations. This article provides a preliminary design of the supervising system for pyroprocessing. In particular, a manufacturing execution system intended for an automated pyroprocessing facility, named Pyroprocessing Execution System, is proposed, by which the overall production process is automated via systematic collaboration with a planning system and a control system. Moreover, a simulation-based prototype system is presented to illustrate the operability of the proposed Pyroprocessing Execution System, and a simulation study to demonstrate the interoperability of the material-handling equipment with processing equipment is also provided.

Nowadays, a production system has been required to be more flexible, adaptable, and responsive than ever by market dynamics and intense competition. In particular, production systems should be able to dynamically organize and operate production resources in response to environmental changes on their own. This paper proposes a self- organizing mechanism of production resources, based on a dynamically and recursively constructed fractal-like organizational model, named as employment network. Each production resource autonomously makes an employment contract with another production resource and equips aggregated production capability, which incorporates capabilities of its employee resources. In addition, the employment relation is propagated upward or downward in the layered structure of production resources, resulting entire organizational structure. The proposed mechanism can be applied to dynamic production planning issues in terms of matching production resources and production activities. A simulation study to validate the proposed organizing mechanism is also presented in this paper.

Up to date cosmetic OEM/ODM (original equipment manufacturing/original development manufacturing) industry receives attention as a future growth engine due to steady growth. However, because of limited research and development capability, many companies have employed commercial management platforms specialized for large-sized companies; thus, overall system effectiveness and efficiency is low. Especially, MRP (material requirement planning) system introduced originally in 1970s is employed to calculate the requirement of the parts. However, dynamic nature of production lead time usually results in incorrect requirements. In addition, its algorithm does not consider the capability of the production resources. Also, because the commercial MRP system calculates all subcomponent for fixed period, the more goods have subcomponent, the slower calculation is. Therefore, conventional MRP system cannot respond complicated situation in time. In this study, we will suggest a new method that can respond to complicated situations resulting from short lead time and urgent production order in Korean cosmetic market. In particular, a distributed MRP system is proposed, that consists of multi-functional and operational modules, based on the characteristic of the BOM (bill of material). The distributed MRP system divides components (i.e. products and parts) into several fields and decrease the problem size; thus, we can respond to dynamically changed data any time. Through this solution, we can order components quickly, adjust schedules and planned quantity, and manage stocks reasonably. In addition, a prototype of the distributed MRP system is presented in this paper, in which ERP (enterprise resource planning) sever data is associated with an excel spreadsheet via MSsql. System user interface is implemented by a VBA (visual basic for applications) tool. According to a case study, response rate for delivery and planning achievement rate were enhanced about 20%, and inventory turnover was also decreased. Consequently, the proposed system improves overall profit.

따라서 본 연구에서는 열악한 중소제조기업 환경에 적합한 APS(advanced planning and scheduling) 시스템을 개발하였다.
