Solid Oxide Energy Device (SOED) Lab
Professor Jung Hyun Kim is a highly accomplished researcher and university professor specializing in ceramic materials and fuel cells, boasting over 15 years of experience in the field. He obtained his master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and later completed his doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution.
Since February 2011, Professor Kim has been affiliated with the Department of Applied Materials Engineering at Hanbat National University. During this time, he has led extensive research endeavors through the Solid Oxide Energy Device (SOED) Lab, with a primary focus on investigating energy devices such as Solid Oxide Fuel Cells based on hydrogen.
His research pursuits encompass both fundamental scientific principles and practical applications of fuel cells. Most notably, he has undertaken numerous projects involving Solid Oxide Fuel Cells and Solid Oxide Gas Sensors. His diverse research interests include fuel cell technology, solid-state ionics, new materials, ceramic processing, electrochemistry, hydrogen, and electrochemical conversion.
Throughout his career, Professor Kim has collaborated with Professor John T. S. Irvine, a distinguished scholar renowned for his contributions to the field of fuel cell research at the University of St. Andrews.
Demonstrating a proven track record, Professor Kim has consistently delivered successful projects within specified timelines and budgets. He possesses expertise in synthesizing various oxide materials, including layered perovskites and oxide systems, and has adeptly applied strategic approaches to the utilization of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). His strong problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail have significantly contributed to the advancement of SOFC development.
One notable recent accomplishment of Professor Kim involves the identification of microstructural differences in the electrical conductivity of layered perovskite cathodes utilized in IT-SOFCs. As a result, he has published several exceptional academic research papers highlighting his findings in this area.
