논문 초록 (Abstract)
This study reexamines the historical evolution and conceptual transformation of projective drawing as a central medium of architectural thought. Beginning with the perspectival system of the Renaissance, projection in architecture developed through the establishment of parallel and axonometric projections in the modern era, emphasizing geometric rationality and technical precision. However, the twentieth century exposed the epistemic limitations of such instrumental systems, leading architects to explore alternative modes of representation that engage imagination, temporality, and conceptual process. With the digital turn, projection has expanded beyond static representation to encompass informational and computational dimensions. Within this trajectory, the drawings of Perry Kulper emerge as a pivotal reinterpretation of projection as a cognitive and performative medium. His layered and relational compositions reveal drawing as an active field of thinking and making rather than mere depiction. Through historical, theoretical, and case-based analysis, this paper redefines projective drawing as a composite projection system—a dynamic structure that integrates geometry, perception, and imagination—thereby reaffirming its continuing relevance in contemporary architectural education and design process.
