논문 초록 (Abstract)
Purpose
This study compares reviews of Korean and foreign video games to identify consumer responses and differentiating factors, while exploring directions for the Korean game industry. In particular, it examines consumer perceptions during the industry’s transition from a mobile-centered revenue model to gameplay-focused development with global competitiveness.
Design/methodology/approach
Three Korean games—Dave the Diver, Lies of P, and Stellar Blade—were analyzed alongside nine representative foreign titles in the same genres. A text-mining approach combining Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and K-Means clustering was employed. LDA extracted latent topics from reviews, while K-Means grouped them by topic distribution, enabling both micro-level insights and macro-level patterns of consumer feedback.
Findings
Results show that Korean games retained genre-specific traits while receiving positive evaluations for innovative mechanisms, storytelling, and character design. Dave the Diver was praised for its novel gameplay mix, Lies of P for optimized performance and unique narrative, and Stellar Blade for detailed design and visual completeness. However, some weaknesses were noted in sensory experience elements such as sound, combat effects, and immersion. Overall, Korean games can strengthen global competitiveness by leveraging genre strengths while enhancing originality. The analysis provides empirical insights into consumer priorities, offering practical implications for game design, marketing, and performance evaluation.
